Current capabilities
The desktop shell, local API, browser extension, and source-specific workers operate as one application.
Desktop
Grabbit runs in its own Windows window, owns its local backend, and stays accessible from the system tray.
Browser
The Chrome and Edge extension can scan the active page, download in the browser session, or send its URL to Grabbit.
Queue
Submit single links or batches, then pause, resume, cancel, clear, and monitor work from one queue.
Library
Completed media is indexed locally with searchable metadata, playback, deletion, and favorite controls.
Sources
Dedicated workers handle videos, image galleries, social profiles, Instagram posts, Sketchfab models, and Shadertoy projects.
Tools
Mark a start and end point on downloaded media, create a named clip, and export it as a separate local file.
Support
Check backend health, runtime tools, storage, database state, and export a redacted snapshot for troubleshooting.
Privacy
Settings, queue state, metadata, and downloads remain on your machine. Grabbit requires no hosted account.
Workflow
The interface and processing stack run together locally, while the extension is used only when browser context is required.
Paste one or more links, or hand the active browser page to Grabbit through the extension.
Grabbit identifies the source and routes video, gallery, social, model, or shader work to the appropriate local worker.
Track progress in the queue, then inspect, play, favorite, clip, or remove completed files from the local library.
Grabbit stores its database, settings, queue state, and downloads on your machine. No hosted account is required to run the desktop application.
The browser extension handles user-requested page scanning and download handoff. Diagnostics exports are redacted for safer support and release verification.

Release path
Core functionality already runs locally. The remaining work is about trustworthy public distribution, not a speculative product.
Current build / release hardening / platform expansion
Native Windows shell, tray controls, local backend, queue, media library, clips, diagnostics, and extension handoff.
Code-signed Windows installer, stable updater feed, versioned artifacts, and Chrome and Edge store review.
macOS packaging first, followed by Linux packaging once the Windows release and update path are proven.
